What is the Tour de BBQ?

The Tour de BBQ, which will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, is KC’s tastiest event on two wheels. It is a “tour” – not a race – where riders choose between routes of 12, 35, and 62 miles. What makes the event unique is that the rest stops for each route are some of Kansas City’s most famous barbecue restaurants where riders are provided a sample of that restaurant’s offering. After cyclists complete their route, they’re greeted with frosty beverages, more barbecue and a free concert.

Funds raised by the Tour de BBQ support The University of Kansas Cancer Center Survivorship Transition Clinic – a program for young adult survivors of pediatric cancer. The clinic was developed through a research partnership with Children’s Mercy Hospital, the University of Kansas Medical Center and Midwest Cancer Alliance, the outreach division of The University of Kansas Cancer Center. The Tour de BBQ provides funds for a nurse navigator to assist adolescents as they transition from pediatric to adult oncology treatment.

Since its inception in 2009, the Tour de BBQ has donated nearly $500,000 to support cancer survivors in Kansas City.

Registration

There are two types of registration for the Tour de BBQ: Fundraise to Ride or Traditional Registration.

Traditional Registration

Here, you simply pay the registration fee and fundraising is optional – although still encouraged. Once you pay the registration fee, you can still join a fundraising team, create your own team, or fundraise individually. But nothing further is required if you simply choose to show up and ride. If you select "register to ride," but fundraise beyond the $85 fundraising entry fee, your registration cost will be added to your fundraising total.

Fundraise to Ride

The other way to register is through the Fundraise to Ride. With this option you pay no upfront rider fee, but rather commit to fundraising at least $85 by September 28 in order to participate in the 2018 Tour de BBQ. Our sponsors and partners help us give great fundraising prizes steaks from The Kansas City Steak Co., 2018 jerseys, YETI prize packs and more. See a full list of fundraising prizes below.

What happens if I don’t raise $85 by September 28? You can still participate in the Tour de BBQ by paying the current registration price for your distance or personally donating the remaining amount to fulfill the $85 fundraising obligation.
